Individual Consultations as Marketing
Follow-up:
Now, you've attended the Marketing Seminar and you want to get some
private feedback.
Following ASMP/NC's “Interactive Marketing Panel" on Thursday,
March 22, one of our panelists, Louisa Curtis, will be available
for private creative consultations on the following two days, Friday,
March 23, as well as Saturday, March 24.
This is a great opportunity to have some one-on-one advice with an industry
professional.
Louisa Curtis:
Louisa is based in New York City and is both a creative and marketing
consultant through Chatterbox Enterprises & ADBASE. She has worked
within the commercial photography field for a number of years, and
as the industry evolved, she saw a need to develop a more flexible
and personalized approach to the business. With that in mind, she
formed
Chatterbox
Enterprises,
a photography-referral network designed to provide a variety of “non-exclusive,” creative
consulting and marketing services to photographers.
It all began
in the early 1980’s with a stint at American Showcase where
they liked the sound of her voice. Originally from England, Louisa
had relocated to New York City (by way of Paris) and was asked if
she would be interested in “selling” – she then
became the first U.S. sales rep for Archive Magazine. After a stint
with Ross Culbert & Lavery graphic design firm (they liked her
voice there, too) and a few years with several photography classes
later, she found her way back to the commercial circuit by working
under the welcoming wings of Watson & Spierman Productions, starting
off as an assistant and then working up to associate artists’ representative
and agent.
From there it was back to the source books as Northeast
and Southeast photography sales marketing consultant at the Black
Book before moving on to Photo District News as sales marketing manager
for both PhotoServe’s online web portfolios and IPNstock. Over
the years, Louisa has been involved in helping to both promote and
produce a variety of events, thus developing a large network of industry
professionals with an ever-increasing “family” of contacts.
She recently moderated a panel of award-winning art directors at
Photo Plus Expo and wrote an article for the new online
magazine Mactribe, called “Alternative Repping.”
Louisa
is currently working with a number of both local and out-of-town
photographers.
As she notes on her website, "We’re not reinventing the wheel,
we’re helping to make the wheel run more efficiently and increase
your potential for success by using a simple three-step approach..."
What exactly is a creative consultation,
and how does a portfolio review work?
Where are you in your portfolio development?
Do you have a website?
Is it bringing you the work you love?
Does it need revamping?
Do you have a marketing plan in place?
Is it working for you or perhaps you’re looking
to enter new markets?
Maybe you are interested in just starting the process
of how to market your images by roughing out some goals
together.
Choices can come later
if you are not ready for that. Often these reviews are
an inexpensive way to try out a consultant to see if
there is a fit. Besides looking at your actual portfolio,
Louisa suggests that you bring as many images as possible
with you (wallet sized thumbnails are fine.) There should
also be Internet access so that she can view your website.
Remember:
Marketing is a critical part of your business, and Louisa
Curtis has the background and experience to help you.
