Program
Humor, wit, and more than a passing familiarity with the
absurd have all helped Jack Reznicki become one of the most
sought-after illustrative and people photographers in New
York. In recent years he may be best know for his expressive
photographs of kids or as he says, “Kids as kids.”
Jack will go over how to direct people to get those expressions
he's so well know for. He believes the people and kids in
front of your camera should not be there just to reflect
light; they should actually look full of life, regardless
of what type of photography you do.
Always insightful, entertainingly outspoken, and refreshingly
candid, Jack will discuss in this far-reaching session,
his commercial and personal work and how they interact,
his vision of the future of our industry, copyright and
licensing issues, and his popular “Lighting Concepts.”
Jack has often said, "Be the photographer clients hire
because of the way you think, not because you're someone
with a camera." Come and see how Jack thinks and what
he does with a camera. Jack will also have a Q&A at
the end of his presentation. Never one to duck a hot question,
these are always very illuminating sessions.
Bio
If you're paid to take pictures, chances are it's because
you've gone beyond the merely mechanical aspects of photography.
True financial success lies in how you think about what
you shoot. When asked about the most important piece of
equipment he uses, Jack Reznicki likes to answer, "My
wetware, my brain.”
Jack is an early advocate of digital capture photography,
specializes in photo illustration — creating a specific
idea or mood for an ad —and he knows how to elicit
the desired emotional response from viewers.
Born in Israel, the son of concentration-camp survivors,
Jack moved to the US when he was four and grew up in Rochester,
NY. With a newly-minted BFA cum laude degree in photography
from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and after assisting
some of the top photographers in New York, he opened his
studio in 1980 and has become a well-known and respected
commercial photographer.
His creative problem solving photography has helped promote
products and services for many companies such as Tylenol,
The Wall Street Journal, Hyatt, Toys “R” Us,
Kodak, Canon, Epson, Reader’s Digest, Crest, AT&T,
L’Oreal, Playtex, Johnson & Johnson, several Time
Magazine covers, and numerous other Fortune 500 companies.
Jack is also the author of several books, including “Studio
and Commercial Photography — A Kodak Pro Workshop” book,
published by Silver Pixel Press and chocked full of “insider” information
about the advertising photography business. It explains
in a conversational tone, how work progresses from concept
to finished photograph.
Jack’s insightful articles on photography were published
for over four years in his popular “ProVision” column
in Petersen’s Photographic. His writings have also
appeared in other photography magazines such as Professional
Photographer and PEI Magazine. Jack’s intelligence
and wit are evident in the numerous lectures and workshops
that he gives to professional groups and colleges around
the country. In his talks, Jack shows how creative thinking
helps solve his clients’ visual needs. As an early
advocate of digital photography, Jack has a direct and “plain
English” approach in explaining digital photography
to both beginners and experts. His appearances can be tracked
at http://www.reznicki.com/lectures.shtml.
Believing that photographers should be pro-active in the
photo community, Jack has been very busy there. Currently,
he is the Chairman of the Board and former President of
Professional Photographers of America (PPA). In the past,
Jack has served as President of the New York chapter of
Advertising Photographers of America (APA), sat on the Joint
Ethics Committee in New York, and served as Board Member
of ASMP/NY. Along with many other awards, Jack was very
proud to receive the IPC (International Photographic Council)
Leadership medal for “Excellence in Studio Photography” at
the United Nations. Jack was appointed a guest professor
at Shandong University of Art and Design in Jinan, China
for 2007 and 2008. He is also a Mo-Tse Grand Master Photographer
in China.
Jack is honored to be both one of the original “Canon
Explorers of Light”, one of the original “Epson
Stylus Pros,”
and a Sandisk “Photo Master”. He is proud to
be part of the “Dream Team” instructors for
NAPP’s Photoshopworld Convention. In addition, Jack
does Beta testing and consulting with Canon, Epson, Mamiya,
Microsoft, X-Rite, Leaf digital backs, and Adobe.
